Bennet tells us that out of 10,000 dogs, beloved to their American families and to their handlers, less than 200 returned from Vietnam. William Rivas-Rivas, Campaign Coordinator for PETA and former Naval Officer with tours in the Persian Gulf, talks about the use of animals by the military. PETA claims, "Wars are human endeavors. While a person, a political party, or a nation may decide that war is necessary, the animals never do. Like civilians, they often become the victims of war, but now, the U.S. military is deliberately putting animals in harm’s way. "
